Frontline control: Mercenary and Withered Knight

Mercenary combines hammer pressure with shield counters. The class suits players who want to contest space directly and give incoming attacks an explicit answer. Its value is clearest when the protected space helps allies move, cast or extract.

Withered Knight offers heavy Greatsword combat and the launch Polearm and Shield set. Wither and Execute create a distinct pressure cycle, while Shield Bash variants divide between aggressive disruption and broader team protection.

Both can become too static or too committed. Compare how each one exits a failed exchange. Frontline identity is not permission to absorb every threat.

Range and sightlines: Sorcerer and Blackarrow

Sorcerer brings flexible damage at distance or close range with defensive and crowd-control tools. The player must decide which distance serves the current objective and preserve a reset when opponents close.

Blackarrow emphasizes precision, pressure, positioning and threat revelation. A good angle is one the squad can exploit and defend, not simply the farthest available perch.

Both depend on information and geometry. If cover breaks the sightline or a mobile hunter reaches the backline, the correct response may be rotation rather than more damage.

Tempo and utility: Shadowstrix and Seer

Shadowstrix uses agility, gap closing, vanishing and combinations to create short advantages. Entry and exit should be planned together because a fast opening can become an overextension.

Seer builds energy charges through attacks, then spends them on empowered light and wind actions. Official descriptions include protection, concealment, roots and blinds, giving the class visible squad utility.

The comparison is tempo versus flexible support. Shadowstrix manipulates where an exchange happens. Seer manipulates what the squad can survive or control once the exchange begins.

A practical first-class test

Choose two candidates with different decision patterns. Run the same simple checklist: identify the safest opener, one reliable defensive answer, one way to help an ally and one route out of a bad fight.

Do not change every talent and item while comparing classes. Hold the learning task stable so the class difference remains visible. A good main is the class whose decisions stay legible when information is incomplete.

Return to the full roster after patches, new seasonal content or squad changes. Extraction games reward specialization, but they also punish players who confuse habit with a rule.
